IABF Debuts Student Leadership Advisory Council with Virtual FIBS Discussion

Timed with the start of Italian American Heritage Month, the Italian American Baseball Foundation (IABF) launched its new Student Leadership Advisory Council (SLAC) on Saturday, October 1. The council was joined by Gianmarco Faraone, the National Team and Coaching Staff Coordinator for the Federation of Italian Baseball and Softball (FIBS).

Faraone spoke about his journey working in baseball and described how the baseball development system and professional leagues work in Italy for a passionate group of Italian American college student-athletes via Zoom. He and his colleagues are working hard in advance of the 2023 World Baseball Classic and are looking to capitalize on the momentum the WBC will provide in the coming moments.

“This was an important conversation and dialogue for our IABF Student Leaders,” said Chris R. Vaccaro, Board Trustee of the IABF and chair of the SLAC. “We value our relationship with FIBS and appreciate Gianmarco’s time and energy as he and his team are growing the game in Italy and beyond.”

Through the SLAC, IABF is advancing its mission of youth development and education. This will create opportunities for students to learn and develop their potential and interests in baseball and international relations specific to Italian culture. This council will help high school and college students amplify their voice and creative ingenuity to grow the IABF, while harnessing their deep passion for baseball and Italian heritage.

IABF is planning monthly discussion sessions for students with baseball officials, players, coaches diplomatic leaders and journalists.
