Italian Ballplayer Daniel Monti Earns Scholarship to Sonoma State University

Italian native Daniel Monti attended an IABF sponsored college showcase in the spring and landed a baseball scholarship to Sonoma State University in California.

Monti played previously at Odessa College in Texas. Last season he hit .352 in 39 games with 4 home runs, 35 RBI, 37 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

One of IABF’s key missions is to provide opportunities to Italian baseball players and help grow the game in Italy.

Monti, who plays for the Italian National Team, will play for Sonoma assistant coach Tony Ragusa, a proud Italian American, who played professionally in Italy.

Monti offered a heartfelt narrative about this moment in his life:

“I want to thank the IABF for this great opportunity. They have helped me with the chance to find a great school where I will complete my collegiate career. The scholarship I have been awarded by the IABF is a culmination of the support I received from them since day one.

The showcase in San Francisco allowed me to receive a scholarship offer from Sonoma State University and it is where I got the opportunity to strengthen the relationship with Coach Tony Ragusa, who made the official offer along with Head Coach J. Goelz.

Without the showcase and without the help of the Italian American Baseball Foundation, I wouldn’t have had this amazing opportunity. The IABF is a family, who helps you in times of need, and will always give players 100% of their support. Un grosso grazie alla IABF e Joe Quagliano!”
