It Ain’t Over presents the life and legacy of Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra, a ten-time World Series champion, three-time MVP and 18-time All-Star. The film also portrays Berra as a D-Day veteran, devoted family man and source of enduring baseball wisdom.

RIP Joe Pignatano 1929-2022

The IABF announced the death of Italian American baseball player and coach Joe Pignatano at age 92. A Brooklyn native, he played for several Major League teams, won World Series titles with the Dodgers and Mets, and coached the Mets bullpen from 1968 to 1981.

Larry Baldassaro Wins 2022 SABR Research Award for Tony Lazzeri Book

Italian American baseball writer and researcher Larry Baldassaro won the 2022 Society of American Baseball Research Award for his book on Tony Lazzeri. A professor emeritus of Italian at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, Baldassaro has chronicled Italian American baseball history for decades.

DiMaggio, Berra, Campanella, Piazza Make ESPN Top 100

ESPN released its list of the Top 100 MLB Players of All-Time last week. Four Italian-Americans made the cut. Rightfully so, Joe DiMaggio (16), Yogi Berra (39), Mike Piazza (81) and Roy Campanella (83) are listed. All four legends are inductees of the Baseball Hall of Fame, of course.

The Columbus Citizens Foundation in New York City hosted an Italian American Baseball Foundation panel for Italian American Heritage Month. John Franco, Frank Catalanotto, Mike Pagliarulo and Wayne Randazzo discussed Italian pride, baseball’s growth in America and Italy, and the modern professional game.

Italian American Legend Rocky Colavito Honored with Statue in Cleveland

Rocky Colavito was honored on his 88th birthday with a statue in Cleveland’s Little Italy, where he attended the ceremony. The nine-time All-Star hit 374 home runs, led the American League in homers in 1959 and RBI in 1965, and belongs to the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame.

Q&A: Tony Morante, Yankee Stadium Historian

Tony Morante spent six decades with the New York Yankees, progressing from usher and ticket-sales employee to director of Yankee Stadium Tours from 1985 through 2018. A member of the Italian American Baseball Foundation, he credits baseball’s teamwork and his Italian American heritage for shaping his life and work.

Dom Scala Named 2021 IABF Achievement Award Honoree

Longtime college baseball coach Dom Scala will receive the 2021 Italian American Baseball Foundation Achievement Award at a December ceremony in Brooklyn. The former Adelphi University head coach compiled a 432-331-5 record, won three conference titles and later served the Yankees and Pirates.

Joe Musgrove Channels Italian American Heritage During Padres First No-Hitter

Joe Musgrove wore his Italian cornicello while throwing the first no-hitter in Padres history. He has worn the gold Italian horn pendant since receiving it from his family, honoring a tradition believed to protect against the evil eye and reflecting his Italian heritage.
