IABF Welcomes Summer Intern Vincent DiGeronimo

Temple University sport and recreation management major Vincent DiGeronimo will intern with the Italian American Baseball Foundation in summer 2022. He will support heritage games, sponsorship, development and management while gaining sports-business experience.

Frank Catalanotto, Hofstra Make History

In his first season managing Hofstra, IABF Ambassador Frank Catalanotto led the Pride to its first Colonial Athletic Association baseball championship. Hofstra finished the tournament 4-0, won nine straight games and earned the conference’s automatic NCAA Division I bid.

IABF All-Stars from Italy to Compete Against Bay Area Colleges

The first IABF San Francisco Bay Area Collegiate Games will bring Italian baseball players to the United States from April 20 through April 27, 2022, to grow the game and bridge cultures. The IABF All-Stars will compete against five Bay Area universities, with Parma native Gibo Gerali as manager.

New Haven Coach Chris Celano Reaches 400 Career Wins. Congratulations to University of New Haven coach and Italian American Chris Celano on reaching 400 career wins. The Long Island native played professionally in Italy where he was a member of the 1999 Italian League Champion Rimini Pirates.

Play Baseball in Italy This Summer

Caliendo Sports International Baseball is organizing a youth baseball development trip to Italy, sponsored by the Italian American Baseball Foundation. Peter Caliendo, Mike Taverna, and Bill Sandillo will provide instruction during the July 25–August 4, 2022 program for ages 14–16, which includes tours and games in Italian cities.

Anthony Iapoce Named Senior Hitting Coordinator of Boston Red Sox

Anthony Iapoce has joined the Boston Red Sox as senior hitting coordinator in player development. The New York native previously coached the Rangers and Cubs, served as a special assistant to Chicago’s general manager, and worked in the Brewers’ and Marlins’ organizations after being drafted in 1994.

IABF Sponsors Juano Romero Winter Baseball Camp in Florida

The Italian American Baseball Foundation sponsored the winter Juan Romero Baseball Camp as a way to begin the New Year. The foundation said its Florida connections continue to grow and expressed pride in supporting youth baseball development through the camp.

Marlins Celebrate Italian American Heritage Night with IABF

The IABF was featured on the field during the Marlins’ Italian Heritage Night, where fans received a special Marlins Italian shirt. The organization thanked the Marlins for their hospitality and Jess Crosson for arranging the outing, and noted meeting Anthony Iapoce.

IABF Hosts Summer Clinic with Long Island Baseball

The Italian American Baseball Foundation co-hosted a four-day summer baseball clinic with Long Island Baseball on Long Island in July 2021. Former major leaguers Frank Catalanotto, Mike Pagliarulo and Chris Colabello served as guest instructors, teaching baseball fundamentals to more than 50 campers.

IABF Ambassador Frank Catalanotto Named Hofstra Baseball Head Coach

Frank Catalanotto was named Hofstra University’s 15th head baseball coach after a 14-year Major League Baseball career and two seasons leading New York Tech. He guided the Bears to their first Division II College World Series appearance, a school-record 37 wins, and a national ranking.
