To further its commitment to Tommy Lasorda and what he meant to the game of baseball, the Italian American Baseball Foundation helped facilitate the placement of canvas art featuring Lasorda at the practice facility named in his honor on Long Island.
Each of the six canvas pieces at the Lasorda Legacy Park in Yaphank, New York depict various moments of Lasorda’s life and career and feature IABF logos.
This arrangement was organized by Chris R. Vaccaro, an IABF board trustee, who frequents the facility with his son, Hunter, a member of the Team Steel 8U travel team.
“Any reason to celebrate Tommy’s legacy is a good one,” said Vaccaro. “It’s such a beautiful complex, and with so many kids and coaches working out in the practice facility daily, I figured it was a great space to add some more imagery of Tommy while integrating our IABF logo and branding.”
Lasorda, a passionate Italian American, is the namesake of IABF’s annual top honor presented to a Major League Baseball player or coach who embodies Lasorda’s core values in the game and the meaning of Italian American heritage.
These same core values have also helped shape the Team Steel coaching philosophy that guide the national organization.
