Matt Quatraro is the latest Italian American to manage a club in Major League Baseball. The Rays announced his hiring in October.
Most recently a bench coach in Tampa, he signed a three-year contract with an option for 2026. He was also a hitting coach with the Indians from 2014-2017.
An All-American player at Old Dominion University, he made it as high as Triple-A with the Rays before turning his attention to coaching. He spent several years in Tampa as a minor league coach and hitting coordinator.
Quatraro, 48, spent the last five seasons on Kevin Cash’s staff in Tampa Bay, including one season as the third-base coach and four as the bench coach. The Rays reached the postseason in four of Quatraro’s five years on their big league staff, including a World Series appearance in 2020.
