LSU’s victory against Texas A&M on May 21 marked career win No. 1,500 for coach Paul Mainieri, who became just the fifth coach in NCAA Division I Baseball history to win 1,500 games and a national championship.
After the game, Mainieri reflected on the significance of the win. He ranks No. 11 all-time in NCAA baseball wins.
“I haven’t won any games,” Mainieri said. “It’s the players that have won the games. I’ve just been blessed for 39 years to be surrounded by an awful lot of great kids, wonderful human beings that have gone out there and played their hearts out.”
